Global team development to bring new products to new markets

The Need:
The UK division of a global organisation had undergone a period of significant change and restructuring to deliver new product ranges and diversify into new markets. New production teams were formed to achieve this growth and the organisation realised that to meet its objectives, they needed to support this key group.

Our role:
The production teams needed to adjust to new roles and responsibilities as well as their new peers. To achieve the challenging growth plans, the team leaders would need their teams to perform effectively using new skills as quickly as possible. Salomons helped the newly formed teams in building trust and working together through outdoor teambuilding. This was supported by action planning sessions and skills workshops to take forward the new roles. The production team leaders formed a facilitated learning set which gave them a safe environment in which to meet the challenges facing them.

The outcome:
The programme included review sessions to monitor progress and proved successful in equipping the teams with skills to achieve their objectives. Following the success in the UK, the programme was extended to plants in France where we delivered the programme in French tailored to fit with their culture and specific needs.

Enabling a new team to hit the ground running

The need:
A new shared services training team with a recently recruited manager needed to build an effective team quickly to support their organisation’s strategy. It was vital for the new team to perform effectively from the outset and that was dependant on clarifying direction, drawing up shared objectives and outlining roles and responsibilities.

Our role:
Salomons’ consultants worked in collaboration with the team to carry out a 'stock take' of where they were at and look at the service from their customers' perspective. This resulted in a shared vision for the future of the service. Using a team diagnosis enabled team members to better understand the dynamics and strengths within the team. They were able to identify how to work together more effectively by drawing on skills and overcoming barriers.
The outcome:
The new team benefited from the new energy and motivation that understanding all their colleagues within the team can bring. They are working towards a new set of objectives and motivated to meet challenging goals.

Improving working relationships within a GP practice

The need:
Changes brought about to improve patient care and make the practice more efficient had led to strained relationships between some of the practice staff. Communication between staff had reduced to a formal level and morale was low. The partners decided to arrange some team building to address the problems.

Our role:
Salomons’ consultants talked to every member of staff to understand the different perspectives and inform the structure of the day. Key to the success of the day was to provide a safe environment where everyone could air their feelings and understand the different needs and perspectives of their colleagues. The Strength Deployment Inventory provided an ideal foundation for exploring the issues that had led to the problems and the different needs of staff. We facilitated the day in a way which surfaced the key issues and concerns and encouraged the staff to re-bond as a team.

The outcome:
Staff returned to the surgery with a renewed sense of team and actions to cement more open communications. They also took away a set of individual responsibilities to demonstrate their commitment to each other and to the success of the business. Morale improved immediately and the surgery was delighted with the results
