Improving patient care through new ways of working in Eastern & Coastal Primary Care Trust in Kent
Thank you so much for a brilliant training programme, I feel so much more confident about tackling the challenges ahead, and equipped with new skills which I’m already using
Nurse Manager, Eastern & Coastal Primary Care Trust
The need
Following a merger, the new Primary Care Trust (PCT) needed to implement radical reforms for community health and social care to meet demands from the Government white paper “Our health our say”. It was clear that for the reforms to deliver real improvements in patient care, front line staff would need to engage in finding smarter ways of working and changing longstanding attitudes and behaviours
What we did
We worked with the Trust to identify the key players who could make the change happen and understand what support they would need. The result was a bespoke change management programme for the team leaders who could then return to the workplace equipped with the skills to implement the reforms. A follow up module allowed them to share their learning and identify solutions to any obstacles.
The results
The pilot was a resounding success. Participants embraced the programme wholeheartedly relishing the opportunity to develop new skills and access a supportive network of others going through the same experience. Their increased energy levels and confidence have allowed them and their teams to start facing the challenges ahead. Plans are in place to roll out the pilot for all the other team leaders.
Increasing the influence of Finance Managers in the North West of England in the NHS
Its made me reflect more on how I approach different scenarios so that I am much more likely to tailor my approach to meet the other person’s needs. Before I’d do what I felt most comfortable with rather than really thinking about what will work best in a given situation. I feel more confident, thank you.
Management Accountant, Manchester NHS Trust
The need
A training needs analysis across the NHS in the North West of England identified that management accountants needed new skills to carry out their roles more effectively. In order to be more proactive about adding value in their roles, they needed to be able to influence and negotiate with their stakeholders and budget managers.
What we did
We designed a two day programme to meet the needs of this group, using our tried and tested influencing framework as the backdrop. We included opportunities to work on real scenarios which participants brought with them along with a whole group negotiating skills exercise based on the annual budgeting cycle.
The results
Participants returned to work equipped with a new tool kit and easy to use framework. Many reported back that they had really benefited from the increased self awareness gained from better understanding the impact they have on others and new ways of tackling colleagues they had previously found it hard to influence
